Derek Losh wins The Buckeye Bob 33, leading all 33 laps!
The Buckeye Bob 33 is a special weekend at LPS as Gary Ricketts who drove the famous #133 and also crew man Ronnie Ricketts were taken from us way to early and we honor them for an outstanding UMP Mod battle every year taking 2 grand home as the winner and 33 laps of down right intense battle. Single car qualifying was the first task to earn a good spot in a heat race and Chase Holland was fast time at 13.505. The Mississippi driver is also 2nd in the nation in UMP points. Derek Losh was 2nd at 13.957 and Matt Mitchell turned a 14.282. This would give all 3 of these great drivers the pole for their heat races. The top 2 in each heat would make the Dash and the Dash finish would set the first 3 rows for the 33 lap showdown. Heat race 1 Chase would win it over James Walters, Josh Boller and Cody Wright. Heat race 2 Derek won it over Billie Haager, Jerry Bland Jr. and Jim Mallery. The final heat the LPS champ Matt Mitchell won it over Roger Mills and Scott Ricketts. This setup the dash and Chase Holland won it over Derek Losh, Billie Haager and Matt Mitchell. Next was the on track introduction of the entire field and it was nice to have the 133 mod on the track again with Paul Wright at the wheel. Unfortunately drive shaft problems would end the night early for him but it was great to see Gary’s number back on the track at LPS. Feature time it was and it would be a great battle. Derek Losh took the early lead with Chase and him both up on the top slamming the cushion. Many battles from 3rd through 10th were intense behind the 2 at the front so it was easy to not concentrate on the front watching the side by side battles behind them. Sure enough the battles behind them let them pull away from the field and by lap 10 it was into heavy lapped traffic Derek was into. He ran smooth through the lapped traffic and was racking up the $$$ with the lap money also. Chase was right there with him with like 10 to go and it looked as if we might have a battle for the lead but Derek ran smooth thru the lappers and was working on lapping up to 5th at the end of the race. Derek would take the big win leading all 33 laps and taking the awesome check and trophy for the Buckeye Bob. Chase spun while in 2nd and had to go to the back but he had a great run before pulling off. Finishing behind Derek at the checkers it was Matt Mitchell, James Walters, Billie Haager and Sydney Landes. Thanks to the UMP Mod teams that supported this race and put on a fantastic show.
The Super Stocks would be another battle among the best in the nation as they had 22 entries. The 3 fast times in their groups were Lee Hobbs, Isaiah Sasser and Wade Goodale. The competition in this class is very strong with times so close in the 14.6 and 14.7 range. Heat race 1 was loaded with Devin Wallen getting the win over Reece Novak, Zach Sasser and Lee Hobbs. Heat race 2 went to Travis Heramb over Wes McClara, Matt Raber and Jordan Almanza. The final heat was won by Sam Arthur over Wade Goodale, Nick Kinnett and Cody Tate. This setup the 20 lap A main with Devin Wallen and Lee Hobbs getting the front row draw. This would be another great battle with Lee Hobbs taking the win over a very close Devin Wallen right at his back fender at the finish. Following behind those two it was Sam Arthur, Reece Novak and Zach Sasser.
The Bombers had 17 entries and the fast times in their groups went to Josh Vancleave and Josh Foxworthy. Randy Foxworthy took the win from the front row of heat race 1 over Scott Tidwell and Josh Vancleave. Heat race 2 Katie Grigsby won it from the pole over Josh Foxworthy and Brad Davis. The redraw put the Foxworthy’s both on the front row and it would another great 15 lap battle. Randy led for the first part of the race but then it was a great 3 car battle. Scott Tidwell had came from 5th to the battle for the lead. Randy along with Josh and Scotty were sometimes 3 wide using all three grooves to battle for the win. Scotty made a great move around lap 13 and took the lead and would go on for the win over Josh, Randy and Josh Vancleave. It was a great show honoring the Ricketts family and thanks to all the teams that came to LPS. Next Saturday it is back to a regular show but with a holiday weekend we look forward to seeing a lot of cars and fans to celebrate Labor Day Weekend at LPS!!
