Tye Mihocko Wins the Red Hayden Memorial Race

Another great field of cars for the Red Hayden Memorial Race at LPS. 87 cars entered the gates to put on a fabulous show and we appreciate the Hayden Family and will always honor the years Red supported LPS and many racers. We had 27 sprints for the night and the fast times went to Tye Mihocko, Seth Parker, Kyle Johnson and Brandon Spencer. This setup the 4 heat format taking the top 4 with 4 out of the b main. The 4 heat races were won by Tye Mihocko, Harley Burns, Austin Nigh and Nick Bilbee. Mason Giddens won the B main for the final shot in the big dance. The 25 lap A main started to look like it was going to be Harley’s night but unfortunately he had a tire go down while leading. There was a scary wreck in turn 3 by Bryan Brewer which brought out the red and our thoughts and prayers are with him for quick healing. Tye Mihocko on the restart looked really strong and was able to pick up the win and build his point lead for the 2025 title. Following him at the finish it was Chance Crum, Beau Brandon, JJ Hughes, Nick Billbee and Zack Pretorius.

The Bombers had 20 entries with Josh Foxworthy, Katie Grigsby and Josh Vancleave getting the fast times in their groups. The heat winners were Scott Tidwell, Will McRoberts and Randy Foxworthy. This setup the 15 lap A main and the front row was Katie and Josh Vancleave. They had a classic battle early with Katie taking the lead and looking really strong. Both Josh Foxworthy and Will McRoberts were coming from the 3rd row to the front. Josh Foxworthy was very strong again and took the lead about halfway through and went on for the big win holding off Will McRoberts, Scott Tidwell, Katie Grigsby and Jason Trader.

The UMP Super Stocks had 19 entries. The 3 fast times in their groups were Zach Sasser, Lee Hobbs and Matt Raber. This field was loaded with talent again among some of the top in the UMP ranks. Heat race winners were Zach Sasser, Lee Hobbs and Wade Goodale. Zach just off winning a nice battle with Lee at Bloomington it appeared it was going to be another classic. Zach and Matt drew the front row and had a good battle early. This didn’t last long because the H0 was on a mission and Lee took the lead and won the 20 lapper over Zach Sasser, Wade Goodale, Cody Tate and Isaiah Sasser.

The UMP Mods had 21 entries and it would be another great battle again among our open wheel heroes. Fast times were set by Derek Losh, Cody Wright and Billy Haagar. Derek and Cody won their heats and Dustin Golden won the final heat. The draw for the front row went to Dustin and Derek. Well when Derek draws the front row with the Elite he is hard to beat and he led the way to take another big win. Derek Losh was followed at the line by Cody Wright, Dustin Golden, Matt Mitchell from 12th and Billy Haagar. Thanks to all 87 drivers, teams, families and all the great LPS fans for an exciting night in honor or the great Red Hayden. Thanks again to the Hayden family for putting this race on every year at LPS. See you next week as the Huntley Hoosier IMCA 305’s are on the card with our other 3 classes. Good luck to any of our non wing guys that go try for the 20 grand at Tri state.
