Kyle Shipley Puts It In Victory Lane At LPS For The First Time
The opening night of the regular season at LPS sure did make me think again it is great to live in Indiana. 26 sprints entered the gates and we have many heroes every week but night 1 of the regular season had drivers from Indiana, Ohio, Arizona, California and Colorado and I think that is awesome for us sprint car fans. Heat race 1 Kyle Shipley looked very strong from the 2nd starting spot taking the 8 lap heat over Carson Garrett, Shawn Westerfield and Brayden Fox. Heat race 2 had the champ Tye Mihocko in the 24P come from 4th to win it over Ivan Glotzbach, Jesse Vermillion and Kyle Johnson. The final heat Geoff Ensign winning it over Seth Parker, Cole Kirkman and Cody Fendley. It is great to see Geoff back and also Seth looks really strong just like in 2024. Also great to see the 600 micro star Cole Kirkman in a non wing 410 as Cole has won many features all over the Midwest in the 600 class. Cody Fendley looked really impressive also as another California driver joining the Indiana roster. This setup the 25 lap A main with the front row being Kyle Shipley and Tye Mihocko. The battle of the Phoenix front row that we all are glad they moved here. Kyle Shipley showed his same strength he had for the Usac race 3 weeks ago as he took the 0g to the front and behind him was a hornets nest of battles from 2nd thru 7th inches from each other running low middle and high grooves. Jadon Rogers had made it to 2nd place early in the race and was catching Kyle to battle for the top spot. The 66 attempted to make a pass but the yellow came out and would have to restart 2nd . Kyle ran strong on the restart and didn’t miss his mark much at all during the 25 lap feature and picked up a huge win to start the early season at LPS. Congrats to him and his team for the 1st victory in a state where we have the best of the non wing heroes in my opinion. Following Kyle at the finish was Carson Garrett in the 2E Epperson ride, Jadon Rogers, Tye Mihocko, Seth Parker, Geoff Ensign and Cody Fendley. Thanks to all the 26 teams who put on an outstanding show for our great fans.
The UMP Mods had 21 entries loaded with talent from Indiana and Illinois. Heat race 1 Jim Mallery came from the 3rd spot to win the heat over Kenny Carmichael SR., Jimmy Hayden and Matt Mitchell. Heat race 2 was another dandy with Bryce Shidler winning it over Jason Cox and Grayson Pratt from Minnesota. The UMP mod division is also so great because we can get drivers from all over the nation going for those 75 points for a feature win. The final heat was won by James Walters from 5th starting spot over Brayden Doyle who came from 7th and Jerry Bland Jr. rounding out the top 3. This setup the 20 lap A main for those 75 UMP points to start the 2025 season. This feature would be the battle of the Diamond chassis versus the Vanquish chassis. Bryce Shidler would take the lead and really look fast in his Diamond chassis. Brayden Doyle in his Vanquish was running a strong 2nd. Bryce unfortunately when getting into lapped traffic had a lapped car slow and another one spin right in front of him where he could not miss them and slammed into the lapper ending his night with damage to the right rear. Brayden Doyle took over the lead and was able to hold on for the win the final 10 laps over champ Matt Mitchell in 2nd from the 10th starting spot, Grayson Pratt, Jerod Deckard and Jason Cox rounding out the top 5.
The UMP Super Stock Division had 13 cars for night 1. Wade Goodale came from 7th to win the 1st heat race over Travis Heramb, Devin Wallen and Cody Tate. Heat race 2 Ryan Freeland held off Wes McClara, Jordan Almanza and Elijah Freeland. This setup the 20 lap A main with Travis and Wade drawing the front row. Wade took the lead but attrition played a big part in this feature. Wade had a nice lead but had to go to the pits. Travis and Devin then looked very strong after Wade pulled in. Devin and Ryan Freeland had to go to the back with cautions and Travis had to pull off for what appeared a front end problem. This class has a load of talented individuals and they are all fast and will have great battles. Ryan Freeland ended up passing Elijah Freeland to take the big win. Reese Riser, Ryan Willard and Devin Wallen rounded out the top 5.
The Bombers had 11 on night 1 at LPS and there are a lot of sharp looking cars. Heat race 1 the defending champ Josh Foxworthy looked very strong as he won the heat over Brad Davis and Josh Vancleave. Heat race 2 Tyler Rodgers looked just as strong as the champ as he took the win over Scott Tidwell and Katie Grigsby. This setup the 15 lap A main and Josh and Tyler had to come from 4th and 3rd place starting spots after the draw but Scott and Brad could not hold them back. Josh took the 38 from 4th place into the 1st place spot in a short time and Tyler also made it to the front early in the race. Josh’s car was really strong all 15 laps but Tyler Rodgers showed getting through some lapped traffic he is going to be a very strong competitor again in 2025. Josh Foxworthy held on for the win over Tyler Rodgers, Scott Tidwell, Brad Davis, Katie Grigsby, Josh Vancleave and Josh Wallace. This Saturday night will be a big night as we have our 4 regular classes along with the Huntley 305 sprints that always put on a good show. Thanks to all the fans and drivers who came out on a chilly night. We hope for a lot of Sun and some warmth to heat it up just like the action on the track. See you Saturday back at LPS.
